Suffolk Overview - Established to the north-east of Greater london, the county of Suffolk is part of the area of England referred to as East Anglia. The county of Suffolk has an area of 1,466 square miles along with a population of approximately seven hundred and thirty thousand. The county is bounded by the neighbouring counties of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Essex, the capital town is Ipswich, whilst additional vital towns are Lowestoft, Newmarket, Felixstowe, Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds. Suffolk is largely low-lying and flat, there are wetland areas in the northern part of the county that are within The Broads. During the period 1889-1974 Suffolk was split into 2 administrative counties, East Suffolk and West Suffolk.
