Suffolk Overview - Based to the north-east of London, the rural county of Suffolk is part of the area of The United Kingdom known as East Anglia. Suffolk has an area of 1,466 sq mls plus a population of about 730,000. Suffolk is bounded by the neighbouring counties of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Essex, the county town is Ipswich, and other significant towns include Bury Saint Edmunds, Felixstowe, Newmarket, Stowmarket and Lowestoft. During the period 1889-1974 Suffolk was divided into 2 administrative counties, West Suffolk and East Suffolk.
